Obligatory (& Necessary) Thanksgiving Post

Just for Fun, Lifestyle/Personal

book-page-pumpkin-1_thumb[7]Although we shouldn’t need a holiday to remind us to be thankful, we’re human. We’re self-obsessed beings who thrive on pity, and focus on the bad instead of the good. We need Thanksgiving to take a step back and think about all of the people and moments that make us happy. To remember that life is fragile and we should enjoy what we have before it gets taken away from us.

I’m thankful for… (equally and in no particular order)

  • family and friends
  • my niece
  • my boyfriend
  • LOVE & LAUGHTER
  • sight and health
  • books and words
  • music and movement
  • travel and adventure
  • dreams and goals
  • traditions (new and old)
  • good food and sweet wine
  • inspiration and creativity
  • work
  • romance and hand holding
  • passion and dedication
  • YOU!
“Life without thankfulness is devoid of love and passion. Hope without thankfulness is lacking in fine perception. Faith without thankfulness lacks strength and fortitude. Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along the spiritual road.”

Happy Thanksgiving

Family Time, Just for Fun, Lifestyle/Personal

Okay, so I didn’t get the job I interviewed for BUT this weekend is about giving thanks NOT complaining or sulking. I’m focussing on that instead, on the things and people I’m thankful for. I’m thankful for Thanksgiving traditions, for apple picking and Downey’s Farm, family naps and little fights, for a huge turkey and delicious pie. This year was my niece’s first Thanksgiving and even though she slept the whole day, it somehow felt complete with her there. My family is full and crazy and so stuffed with love and she belongs here, with us. The perfect piece of the puzzle we didn’t know we were missing.

I noticed yesterday that I tend to speak negatively about my life, about where I am or my lack of accomplishments — and even though it is said with a sarcastic tongue, it has to STOP! There is so much to be thankful for and to be happy about. Things like…

  • health
  • family and friends
  • deep thoughts and conversation
  • pens and books, reading and writing
  • changing seasons and falling leaves
  • small kisses and long kisses
  • hand holding and hugging
  • laughing and crying
  • sleeping and waking
  • giving and receiving love
  • privacy and patience
  • dreams and goals
  • LIVING NOT JUST EXISTING

*** WEEKEND RE-CAP! ***

Post title contributed by this lady;

Well my busy weekend is just about over (Thanksgiving #2 starting this afternoon) and I’m happy to say that I completely enjoyed my weekend. It all began with my cousin’s wedding…

Weddings are long, long days when you’re in a bridal party and by midnight I was wiped out! I did have a wonderful day though, the bridal party was great, the ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was a lot of fun. I have the best cousins in the world! Since my sister’s wedding in Dominican we’ve all gotten really close and I look forward to family functions because of them <3.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving day/dinner with my family, cousins, and the bf.

As usual, the day was filled with laughter, conversation, food, naps, and a few rebels 😉

Dinner was delicious and as I documented (Instagrammed) everything I thought about what my cousin had said earlier that day,You don’t need to capture the moment, you need to live it.’ I try my hardest to do both. I try to live in each moment and document it later – Instagram is great for capturing moments and a way to help me write about it later.

I am truly thankful for the ability to live and to write about it. I’m thankful for my family, my friends, my boyfriend, the in-laws, my puppy, books, health, and the ability to choose. Having the luxury if making choices and changes in life is a an amazing gift and I am thankful for it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, enjoy the last day of the long weekend!
