Remember that one time I told you that I wanted to make a difference? Well, a lovely Twitter friend gave me a window of opportunity and I decided to take it.
I’d like to introduce you (once again) to S.T.E.L.L.A.A.
S.T.E.L.L.A.A. is a nonprofit organization with one heck of a Mission Statement:
“STELLAA aims to promote literacy to the children and adults of Africa through providing donated books and needed educational resources. Our goal is to help the people of Africa to realise their potential and create the new futures for themselves, their families and their communities that will eradicate poverty. In turn, we promote environmental responsibility through the re-use of books and educational supplies, saving thousands of pounds of books from polluting our landfills.”
It’s easy to see why an organization such as this one would grab my attention. I’ve always believed in the power that knowledge has, I have always trusted words, I have always loved diving into a book and getting to travel to many places even if I’m just sitting in my bed. I’ve always understood that education is an important gift and I have always known the power in writing – this organization is trying to make all of these things possible for the many children and adults in Africa. As such, I stand by them and I’m hoping that everyone can to try to get involved.
If literacy is important to you, GET INVOLVED. You can either donate money, run a book drive within your community, run a Tools4Schools drive, and soon you can even participate in a S.T.E.L.L.A.A. Read-a-Thon.
As I mentioned on my Twitter, S.T.E.L.L.A.A. is running a blog tour to celebrate their four-year anniversary and stopping at some pretty spiffy sites! I am honoured to have been the second stop :).
So check out these blogs (and the S.T.E..L.L.A.A. BLOG) to learn more about the organization and hopefully by the end of the tour, you’ll be inspired to get involved!
As part of the celebration, S.T.E.L.L.A.A. is hosting an awesome book giveaway (is there anything better than a book giveaway? I think not). So check it out and good luck to you!
Please share this post and spread the word about S.T.E.L.L.A.A. Feel lucky that you have the tools you need to realise your potential. Feel lucky that you have been educated, that you can pick up a book and read, and that you can pick up a pen and write.
Feel that little tug in your heart?
Well, that’s your heart telling you to get involved and make a difference.
