Last year I entered My Pen, My Voice in the Writer’s Digest 20th Annual Self-Published Book Awards contest. Although I didn’t win, I thought the comments from the judges were worth posting. It was incredible to get some feedback on a book I published in 2011 and it made me wonder why I haven’t really written poetry since. Poetry was my go-to outlet. I started “really” writing when I was twelve-years-old and it was always in the form of poetry. In fact my book is 90% poetry, written between the ages of twelve and eighteen.
I think I’d like to get back to basics, study a bit of poetry, write more poetry again. The best way to write poetry is to start reading it again and so I ask you, what is your favourite poetry anthology? Who is your favourite poet? Where do I begin? Let me know in the comments 🙂
… it’s back to basics for me… again…
Hello Word – a.k.a my familia and my followers whom I love dearly. I’ve been writing quite a bit lately, obviously not much on the blog but I promise I have been writing.
Last year I started writing a chick-lit novel, which was inspired by something my mother said to me. Although I won’t tell you what that something was, I will say that it is the basis of my novel. This morning I finally finished my second draft and although it’s nowhere near complete (editing = rewriting), I am quite happy with it. I mean for a first novel it’s not a huge pile of crap – maybe just a little one 😛
I haven’t yet decided if I want to self-publish again or work my butt off and write one hell of a query letter that will eventually get me a kick-ass agent and in turn ignite my writing career (sorry for the run-on sentence but that’s exactly how I am thinking right now, too quickly for punctuation). Part of me wants to self-publish again because of the freedom it gives you – you and only you decide on the cover, whether a part should be rewritten, or if you want to change something. The other part of me wants to use that money to travel and find other things, people, and places to write about. I have other stories percolating in my mind but I think traveling will be the only thing that will allow me to write them down, although I cannot explain why.
Humph quite the conundrum (word of the day) I’ve got on my hands.
Luckily I’m a firm believer that only time will
tell reveal the answer.
So for now I’ll wait patiently and write eagerly.
