Mom and I took a drive over to Inglewood Antique Market on Sunday morning. The sun beamed as we rode along back street after back street. We passed roads that lead to my high school, a pizza place on Airport Road that we frequented, and a restaurant we saw on You Gotta Eat Here that we went to as a family. Memories everywhere, a reminder of how far I’ve come since I last drove on those roads, the friends I still have and the ones that didn’t last. Highway 10 is a gorgeous sight in the Fall, trees as far as the eyes can see on either side of the road, changing from lush green to a burning red and fiery orange. It smells like change.
We pulled up to the market and were greeted by an orange cat looking to cuddle and an elderly man with a long nose, white hair, a gentle smile, and a spring in his step. I didn’t take many photos because there was so much to look at. Mirrors, vintage luggage, typewriters, chairs, tables, old milk bottles, tea sets, purses, books, toys, beautiful dressers, jewelry, and tonnes of unique pieces for the home. The prices were amazing and the product in such incredible condition, you can tell that the owners take pride in what they bring into their market. My mom was amazed at all of the treasures we found and we plan to go back when it’s time to buy Christmas gifts.

Date-nights with my man are my favourite nights for many reasons, I like to dress up, I like to see him dressed up, I love our no cell phones /talking only rule, and well, I love spending some quality time with him. As far as the dressing up part goes, he looks so handsome with his dark jeans and black shirts, dress shoes, and swanky jackets BUT there is one thing missing. A watch. I know, I know, what the heck do you need a watch for when you have a cell phone? Who really cares about the time anyways? Time doesn’t run my life! Even so, it’s something he’s always wanted and it really completes an outfit! So, since Christmas is creeping up on us I thought I’d share my favourite men’s watches with you. It’ll make a fabulous gift for the special man in your life.

It’s nearing Valentine’s day and some of you may be celebrating your birthday shortly before or after. Your Man has probably asked you what you want. If you’re like me your usual answer is “Babe, you don’t need to get my anything” or “Surprise me”. If that’s the case, over the years you’ve probably ended up with gifts that you.. well not that you didn’t want but gifts that you wouldn’t have asked for. Or maybe you’ve ended up with gift certificates or a dinner date, when really what you wanted is that necklace or that purse.
NOT that you don’t appreciate the gifts that your wonderful boyfriend has purchased for you, just it wasn’t what you would’ve asked for. Now my question is, how the heck is he supposed to KNOW what you want if you don’t tell him? Some men are great at surprises and remembering things BUT if you’ve never TOLD him that you wanted that certain wallet, how the heck is he supposed to know that you want it? They won’t know if you don’t tell them.
So this year, I sent an email to my boyfriend with a list of three things that I want. I included photos and website links so that he knows exactly what to get and where to get it. You may think, well where is the surprise in that? There isn’t. I’m just making things easier on him, we’ve been together long enough for me to send him an email like that without feeling stupid. He can find other ways to surprise me, which he does. Throughout the year he surprises me all the time – sometimes with gifts, sometimes with dinner dates, and sometimes with that one text message that makes my heart drop down to my toes.
I like surprises but why must we torture our boyfriends when it comes to gifts? They aren’t telepathic and to think they are is just plain silly. So this Valentine’s day or even for your next birthday, tell him what you want. He’ll know what to get and as long as he doesn’t stray from the list, you’ll get what you want.
Then you can cuddle and kiss and blah blah blah.
It really is that simple 😉
