Falling into a New Season

Fashion & Beauty, Lifestyle/Personal

“Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season of beginning, spring.” ― Truman CapoteBreakfast at Tiffany’s

I love the stillness that comes with Fall. I love the silence. I love the idea that hibernation is in the forecast. After a crazy-busy-beautiful summer I am ready for a change of pace. I am yearning for cooler weather, warm sweaters, dark nail polish, and pumpkin-spiced everything. Call me crazy but Fall is my favourite season. It has potential, it radiates happiness with modest charm, and although I’m officially not in school anymore, it still has that air of change, growth, and excitement.

I’m looking forward to a Fall filled with new adventures, exploring different styles, and creating new goals. I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving, long drives surrounded by trees with leaves ignited by colour. I’m looking forward to cool evenings with my laptop on my lap, words floating around in my mind, and a hot cuppa tea nearby.

I’m looking forward to it all.

Shopping Spree with Dainty Girl

Fashion & Beauty, Just for Fun, Toronto Adventures

Last week I won a shopping spree with Nicole Wilson from Dainty Girl at M for Mendocino. I entered the contest on a whim, thinking that if I won I could purchase a few new pieces for future job interviews, family events, or date nights. Considering how much I loath shopping, it was a pleasant experience. What made it easier were the suggestions from Nicole, the wonderful PR ladies who made the contest possible, and the reasonably priced clothes I got to look at and try on.

I got to shop on my own, pulling pieces from every which way, and stacking them in my change room. I tried on a few pairs of distressed denim, they were beautiful and stretchy, so much nicer than any pair of jeans I’ve ever owned. I did pull something in my back trying to put them on though — jeans aren’t my friend. I tried on a few skirts, some gorgeous jackets, sweaters, and crop tops. Having Nicole’s opinion, as well as, the other ladies there helped me make a final decision. They know so much about clothes, what works and what doesn’t, and helped me find a few pieces that I would’ve been self-conscious about purchasing if I had been on my own.

I settled on a beautiful red skirt, two sweaters, and the pièce de résistance, a beautiful black coat. I tried it on with a pair of their ripped denim, threw my hair up and stood in front of the mirror beaming. You know when you try on that ONE thing that you know you must have. That one piece of clothing that makes you feel beautiful, sexy, and confident? This coat did exactly that for me and thankfully it’s Dainty Girl-approved.

FullSizeRenderThank you Nicole and M for Mendocino for hosting such an amazing contest and for helping me pick out some beautiful pieces to add to my wardrobe. Thanks for a wonderful night in the city and for boosting my confidence level a little bit — I’m looking forward to strutting out the door in my new coat!

Sunday Morning Antiquing

Family Time, Fashion & Beauty, Just for Fun, Products and Brands

Mom and I took a drive over to Inglewood Antique Market on Sunday morning. The sun beamed as we rode along back street after back street. We passed roads that lead to my high school, a pizza place on Airport Road that we frequented, and a restaurant we saw on You Gotta Eat Here that we went to as a family. Memories everywhere, a reminder of how far I’ve come since I last drove on those roads, the friends I still have and the ones that didn’t last. Highway 10 is a gorgeous sight in the Fall, trees as far as the eyes can see on either side of the road, changing from lush green to a burning red and fiery orange. It smells like change.

We pulled up to the market and were greeted by an orange cat looking to cuddle and an elderly man with a long nose, white hair, a gentle smile, and a spring in his step. I didn’t take many photos because there was so much to look at. Mirrors, vintage luggage, typewriters, chairs, tables, old milk bottles, tea sets, purses, books, toys, beautiful dressers, jewelry, and tonnes of unique pieces for the home. The prices were amazing and the product in such incredible condition, you can tell that the owners take pride in what they bring into their market. My mom was amazed at all of the treasures we found and we plan to go back when it’s time to buy Christmas gifts.

Warby Parker Fall Collection [Obsession of the Season]

Fashion & Beauty, Just for Fun, Lifestyle/Personal, Products and Brands

Fall is my favourite season because it represents change. I love the changing of the leaves, the fresh coolness in the air, and Fall fashion. I’ve been trying to find ways to wear some of my summer favourites in the cooler temperatures. I’ve found the easiest way to go is to wear a sweater over any dress, put on a pair of booties, and add a fabulous necklace (seriously I’ve seen it on Pinterest).

The only thing that I can’t convert for Fall is my glasses. I LOVE glasses, if I could own a different pair for every outfit, I would. I love the frames I have now, but I could use an upgrade. I’d like a darker frame and maybe a completely different shape. I’ve been looking online for a reasonably priced pair of frames that suit my face, that are warm and sexy at the same time, but haven’t had much luck. When Warby Parker emailed me about their Fall Collection, I drooled.

FALL2014_stills“Personality is what makes a good pair of glasses great. Our Fall Collection is for those who own their style, exercise their wit, and add life to the party.”

I love how much they understand that glasses are a reflection of the person that is wearing them. They are an amazing accessory and for people like me, an absolute necessity. The Fall Collection features NINE new shapes and TWO new hues. I love the crystal and striped olive, but my favourite pair from the new collection is the Durand Whiskey Tortoise (bottom photo). If I can squeeze them into my budget (they’re $120 CAD including your prescription btw), you can bet I’ll be purchasing them. These glasses scream Fall and I feel like they represent who I am right now. I can so picture myself wearing them while reading a great novel by the roaring fire, wrapped up in a blanket, and holding a cuppa cocoa. Can’t you?!

Disclosure: I was contacted by Warby Parker to write a post about their Fall Collection. I wasn’t given any form of compensation for this post, I wrote it because I simply love their glasses.

Fall Fashion, Fall Love, Falling for it all…

“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple…”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

And so it has! My favourite season is upon us, which means I’ll be wearing my jeans, sweaters, scarves, and boots for the next few months. I LOVE FALL WEATHER. I love bundling up, I love feeling cozy in my clothing, and I am absolutely obsessed with fall fashion. The best part about fall fashion (for me) are the jackets. They’re warm enough to keep you toasty and they’re more form-fitting than winter jackets (Michelin Man). Here are my top five favourite jackets for fall.

Pink Martini What a Catch Up Coat ($165)

This is by far my favourite coat EVER. It’s not something you’ll see in my closet, even though the price tag isn’t too steep, but I LOVE it. It’s sweet, feminine, and vintage. I can just see myself walking the streets of Toronto in this jacket, wearing black skinnies and heels, enjoying the crisp air and the warm autumn sun.

GUESS LS Military Jacket ($138)

I like this jacket because of the length and where it flares out. Longer jackets always make me feel cozier and a military jacket is a great way to add a bit of “edge” to your look. I kind of wish I had a jacket like this for my trip to NYC in November.

Canada Goose Palliser Jacket ($800)

I’ve heard that Canada Goose jackets are the warmest in the land and this particular one will still let everyone see your wicked curves too.

Raindrops Ruffles Anorak Jacket ($675)

Don’t you hate when it rains in the Fall/rains at all? Well, with this jacket you won’t have to worry about a thing, you’ll look so cute you may start singing…

GUESS Brittney Denim Jacket ($138)

Denim jackets rock. They’re casual, cute, and this particular jacket will add a little something extra to a simple outfit.

Which jacket are you hoping to rock this season?

Lattes, Sunshine, and a total Buzzkill

Book Reviews, Just for Fun, Lifestyle/Personal, Restaurant Reviews, Toronto Adventures

Self-imposed stress can do some wonderful things to your complexion and even give you that sexy eye-twitch you’ve always wanted. Yes, that was sarcasm but a trip downtown Toronto on a beautiful Fall day may be the cure for all that ails you.

You may have read about my trip to Kensington Market on Vintage Living Magazine but there are a few things that I forgot to mention. For starters, everyone in Kensington Market is so youthful, friendly, and accommodating – they even overlooked the i’m-a-small-town-girl sign that looms un-auspiciously over my head. The shops and cafes are divine and for a place that doesn’t have a lot of garbage cans or recycling bins, it’s exceptionally clean (gosh I’m such a priss).

I thoroughly enjoyed my Tuesday downtown and even learned a few things…

  • A skinny, half-sweet pumpkin spice latte is the best thing about Fall – apart from scarves, sweaters, ankle boots, and watching the leaves turn fifty shades of red.
  • Popping into a restaurant you’ve never heard of IS a great idea.

  • Your taste buds will give you a round of applause when you try something new – even if you look silly for eating with a fork instead of chopsticks.

  • Finally, bees that won’t leave you alone when you’re trying to enjoy a wonderful meal on a patio are a total buzzkill! But don’t let that get you down!

Smile, bee happy, and move your meal inside before you get stung!

Love Always
