Last week I won a shopping spree with Nicole Wilson from Dainty Girl at M for Mendocino. I entered the contest on a whim, thinking that if I won I could purchase a few new pieces for future job interviews, family events, or date nights. Considering how much I loath shopping, it was a pleasant experience. What made it easier were the suggestions from Nicole, the wonderful PR ladies who made the contest possible, and the reasonably priced clothes I got to look at and try on.
I got to shop on my own, pulling pieces from every which way, and stacking them in my change room. I tried on a few pairs of distressed denim, they were beautiful and stretchy, so much nicer than any pair of jeans I’ve ever owned. I did pull something in my back trying to put them on though — jeans aren’t my friend. I tried on a few skirts, some gorgeous jackets, sweaters, and crop tops. Having Nicole’s opinion, as well as, the other ladies there helped me make a final decision. They know so much about clothes, what works and what doesn’t, and helped me find a few pieces that I would’ve been self-conscious about purchasing if I had been on my own.
I settled on a beautiful red skirt, two sweaters, and the pièce de résistance, a beautiful black coat. I tried it on with a pair of their ripped denim, threw my hair up and stood in front of the mirror beaming. You know when you try on that ONE thing that you know you must have. That one piece of clothing that makes you feel beautiful, sexy, and confident? This coat did exactly that for me and thankfully it’s Dainty Girl-approved.
Thank you Nicole and M for Mendocino for hosting such an amazing contest and for helping me pick out some beautiful pieces to add to my wardrobe. Thanks for a wonderful night in the city and for boosting my confidence level a little bit — I’m looking forward to strutting out the door in my new coat!
Tuesday was my first official mentor session with Casie Stewart thanks to the contest I won from HTC Canada. I walked into the Royal York Fairmont Hotel and wandered aimlessly, taken aback by the sheer beauty of the place. I had arrived at said destination a little early and figured that the best use of my time would be to people-watch. Classy and elegant women sat on sofas with their ankles crossed, a piano player sang her heart out somewhere in the distance, an angry man with grey hair shuffled passed me with his head shaking and mumbling an audible FUCK under his breath, while a young woman stood silently with her suitcases leaning against her — making me want to travel desperately.
As I looked around and stared up at the beautiful boxy ceilings, and shamelessly took a selfie, Casie popped out of nowhere with a big hug and a warm smile. My nerves melted away as we made our way to Library Bar, ordered cocktails and an appetizer to split. We immediately jumped into conversation, like old friends, and admittedly it was one of the best conversations I’ve had in a long time. As the dark-lit room buzzed with the busyness of businessmen I let it all fade away and opened my mind to everything Casie was saying.
As part of the HTC One contest, I won a few hours with Casie Stewart so she can get me on the proper path to becoming an Influencer with my blog. But before we got into that Casie wanted to know about me and what I want. When I couldn’t come up with an answer she asked me to visualize where I want to be, what I want to wear to work, what kind of company I want to work for, where I want to live, and not just visualize it but FEEL it. That will be my first step to AWESOMENESS.
Next Casie told me about herself, she told me stories that left me feeling inspired and motivated. She gave me tonnes of advice and really believes in me which left me on a cloud the rest of the evening. She told me to stop coasting, to stop being afraid, and to do things — the more you do, the more inspired you’ll be to write. She told me to make a change and THAT is exactly what I plan on doing. First I must figure out what I want and then make a plan (and work my ass off to get it).
I can’t wait to meet up with Casie again to show her what I’ve been working on.
Her positivity and caring nature made me feel confident and ready to take on the world.
Looks like she’s pulling me out of my rut!
I received an ARC of Jeanette Walls’ The Silver Star and although you’ll have to wait a bit for my review, I wanted to share a contest that Simon & Schuster Canada is hosting. Good luck ya’ll and stay tuned for my review 🙂
Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who participated in my first giveaway! I’m hoping to partner up with some other great brands this year to get some more free stuff out to YOU — was that my pitch to other brands? Maybe, if interested contact info can be found here :P. I used the List Randomizer from RANDOM.ORG to choose the winner of this giveaway! I figured just for fairness sake I’d choose the first person on the list!
Without further adieu..
